What’s your role at BrightInsight?
As the Accounting Manager on the Finance team, I am responsible for analyzing, recording and tracking financial information for the business in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes overseeing the monthly financial close process, supporting external audit requests, invoicing our customers and cash management.
Can you share a bit of background on yourself (where you grew up, where you went to school, etc.)?
I grew up in Mauriceville, Texas, a small town about two hours east of Houston. In high school, I decided I was great at math, and that therefore, I should be an accountant! So long story short, I graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX with a BBA in Accounting in 2011 and MS in Accounting in 2013. I moved to Houston a few years later and obtained my CPA license. Prior to coming to BI in August 2022, I spent almost seven years at a national funeral services company in Houston providing accounting and financial reporting support.
What is your favorite food?
Thai food - Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Tom Yum soup, all of it!
Where is your favorite place on Earth?
When I was in manufacturing right out of college, I spent a lot of time travelling around the US and fell in love with the Nashville area of Tennessee. Not only was the music scene amazing, the weather was beautiful and the views of the scenic landscape were spectacular.
Which of BrightInsight’s Values most resonates with you and why?
Accountability. It’s so important to our valued customers and our mission-critical projects. Being an accountant, I feel a great responsibility to provide accurate information to both our internal and external stakeholders. When we hold ourselves accountable, we allow ourselves to learn and grow, which opens the door to achieving more positive outcomes for ourselves, the Company, and our customers.
What is your favorite thing about working at BrightInsight?
The people I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with here are some of the most intelligent folks I’ve ever met. Additionally, the agile environment of the business has me learning something new every single day.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
In my spare time, I serve as Board Treasurer and Volunteer Coordinator for Bunnies on the Bayou, a Houston based nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds to improve the quality of life for the LGBTQ+ in the Greater Houston area. This year, we were able to raise and distribute $195,000 to 20 different LGBTQ+ 501(c)(3) organizations, a feat I am most proud of!!!
In my spare time, you most likely will catch me at the movie theater or rooting for the Houston Astros!
