Justin brings to Eclipse a deep understanding of translating basic science into successful commercial operations. His passion for full-stack investing stems from the belief that disparate hardware and software creates significant friction, and frustration, for users. He likes to collaborate with founders who design integrated, elegant solutions resulting in a more seamless — and useful — experience for the end user. Justin is particularly interested in novel approaches to complex issues such as healthcare, multilayer security, and distributed computation systems to support artificial intelligence.
Prior to joining the investment team at Eclipse, Justin built and led the commercial operations at Misfit, a digital health company acquired by the Fossil Group for more than $250M. Before Misfit, Justin managed the commercialization efforts in the foods, fuels, and chemicals spaces at Synthetic Genomics (SGI), a leading synthetic biology company.
At SGI, Justin’s efforts led to first-in-class technology development, licensing, and commercialization deals with ADM and other Fortune 100 food and chemicals companies.
Justin received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UCSB and his MBA from MIT Sloan. Justin is an avid cyclist and triathlete and serves on the advisory board of CycleKids, a nonprofit focused on strengthening the physical and emotional health of children.
